Welcome to our website. I hope it offers you a flavour of the community that is Loreto Catholic Girls’ Grammar School.
It is a privilege to serve this community as headteacher, and I cherish the tremendous gift that has been placed into my hands by the Loreto Sisters. We are proud of our rich heritage and tradition, Mary Ward founded the Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary over 400 years ago, Teresa Ball established the first Loreto schools in England in 1851 and Loreto Altrincham began in 1909. Such a heritage is a source of inspiration for the future of the School and for our work with the young women in our care. We are known for our distinctive striped blazer and proud of what it represents: tradition, excellence and a strong sense of belonging.
Loreto is a wonderful school comprising some 1075 students and over 100 staff. We are a happy inclusive community, a community in which each young person is known and celebrated for their own unique gifts and talents and encouraged to share them for the benefit of all. As recognised in our recent Catholic Schools Inspection, "Inclusivity is a priority for all and the school celebrates the uniqueness of the individual. Discussions with students and staff highlight the caring and positive environment that is synonymous with Loreto, ensuring all students are known and held in high esteem."
We offer a rich curriculum, one which is dynamic, carefully planned and consistently reviewed to meet the needs of the young women in our care. Our teachers are experts in their fields and passionate about their work. We aspire to offer an enriching and liberating education not only in the curriculum we offer but equally beyond the classroom. Year on year our academic achievements rank very highly at national levels. Creating a broad extra-curricular timetable with excellent music and drama clubs some of which are led by the girls supporting our staff. We strive for sporting excellence and have many opportunities for students to be involved. We were honoured to be named State Secondary School of the Year in the Northwest in the Sunday Times.
We take great pride in our international context: we are part of a worldwide network of over 120 Loreto schools and 70,000 students and have strong links with many of our sister schools abroad including India, Australia, Germany and Spain. Equally we are international in our student body and we celebrate this diversity as a strength and richness.
As a Catholic school, what makes us so distinct? I would sum it up as follows: We provide our girls with a set of educational experiences that help you as parents shape their values, their attitudes, their faith and their sacramental life. Thereby we (and you) collaborate in the creative work of God as He seeks to grow each girl into the woman He has it in mind for her to be.
Above all, as a Loreto school we seek to nurture young women who will take leadership roles in school and in our local, national and indeed global society, women of courage who are alive to the needs of humanity and committed to making a better world - women who, in the words of Mary Ward will be ‘No half women,' and who will achieve 'no half measures’.
